The number of daily active Facebook users in South Africa has shot up to 7.3 million while in Nigeria this figure is 7.1 million.
This is according to the social network which revealed its official numbers on Thursday.
Detailing the figures, the company said that South Africa has averaged 12 million active monthly users while Nigeria has 15 million monthly Facebook users.
Of the daily active users on the social network in South Africa, 7 million accessed Facebook via mobile devices. In Nigeria, this figure stands at 6.9 million..
“Mobile is not a trend; it’s the fastest adoption of disruptive technology in history of communication,” said Nunu Ntshingila, the newly appointed head of Africa at Facebook, in a statement.
Facebook has already opened its first Africa office as it seeks to entrench uptake and active usage of its platform which offers a cheaper communication and information sharing alternative.
“It’s also an incredibly personal device regardless of where a person lives or how they connect, and businesses need to reach people where they are, not where they were, in an authentic, personal and relevant way,” said Ntshingila.
Elsewhere in Africa, Facebook said as many as 2.2 million Kenyans use the social networking site on a daily basis. Mobile accessibility has also ramped up in these countries.
In Kenya, mobile devices made up for 4.3 million active monthly users and 2.1 million active daily users.
Facebook also said active user numbers for the Africa region had grown by 20% to 120 million in June, compared to 100 million in September 2014.
